Many wonder if there is a city of full light beyond them. No one has had the guts or skills to find out completely. Some have made it out but have ran back because the complete darkness freaks them out. Lina Mayfleet has visions of the lighted city. She even draws them with the savages that she finds. Ember is on its way out. Doon however has the skills, and knowledge for what it takes to save The City of Ember. Together they may be able to save the Citizens of ember.
Lina and Doon are best friends right. Well they didn't use to be. The whole thing about finding the instructions and decoding them really made them friends in the first place. A few days go on and they finally decode the instructions. now they are traveling allong their way ijn the Pipeworks trying to find the hidden room with all of the boats, candles, matches, and paddles to get their way out of Ember. Anyway they can't figure out how the candles work, but then they finally do.
I was a little angry about: the part when they thought that they found the secret room, but it was really just the Mayor's secret stash of food that he was stealing from everyone. This was because I was waiting and waiting for them to just find it, so I could read about Lina, Doon, and Poppy's escape. Poppy is Lina's little sister by the way.
I was also a bit confused during the whole incident about Sadge coming back from the outside of Ember because it was pointless. I just don't understand why the author needed to put that part in. We already know about the times when people tried to escape Ember and never came back. Or when they went , but came back a few minutes later. All that I am saying is that it was just a bit repetitive.
The one part of the story that I really enjoyed was when Lina and Doon finally solved the instructions for the way out of Ember. This was because I had been waiting so long, I could practically solved myself by now. Well, when that happened, I was really happy. I was ready to read about the journey to find what they needed to escape the City.

ReplyDeleteThe city of Ember seems like a really good book.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, though i have never read it i hate when books have character that take a long time to figure out a clue because i get very impatient.
